Yesterday started out cloudy and muggy, and ended up bright and sunny. A good day perhaps to ‘draw the Curtins’, as Dan and Mike Curtin played well in achieving a first: a Father/Son duo taking first and second low net in a Woodlawn Club event. Without further ado, here were the results:

Please send emails to sign up for the Woodlawn Memorial. We had two instances of members being shut out of yesterday’s event because they responded after the deadline and Pelham was fully booked and hence there was no chance to get another tee time.

Note the deadline for the CC, the B, and the Handicap semis is Sept 17. That means you are expected to come to the next tournament with a result. Do not wait until the Sept 20 event to play your semi-final or you risk disqualification.. Arrange to play your opponent next weekend, or else your attendance will be factored in to who goes forward.

Congratulations to the entire team and captain Tom Bennett as Woodlawn beat Spillane’s 9.5-2.5 (only loss was doubles match of Carey-Lafferty, who respectively scored 38 and 40 Stableford points!). That puts us in the final against the winner of the Gaelic/Crown City match.

A memorial golf tournament will be held for past Woodlawn Golf Club President, and longtime member, Seamus Finnerty on September 26th. The event will be at The Links at Union Vale. Our next official tournament is Saturday June 21st at the Links at 11AM. That day, Woodlawn will also ply Emerald in the Links Founders Cup competiton. The Woodlawn players not playing in those matches will go out before the Founders Cup matches. We ask that if you are not selected by Interclub Captain Tom Bennett to play in the Emerald match, to please play a first round Woodlawn match that day. We are closing in on first round deadlines, and if a match is not played by the deadline, the attendance at our tournaments will be a major factor on determining who is eliminated. First tee times is 7:08 . I am guaranteeing picture perfect conditions, a light and subtle breeze , almost calm. 66 when you tee off, 83 when you finish…. There are a number of matches being played, but in attempt to speed up the play, we are playing Stableford . That should help move things along a little. We can’t have another week where there is a 30 minute gap between groups finishing. So if you lay 6 on the green, take one putt and pick it up, mark it as 8X, and move along. Please be conscious of keeping up with the group in front of you. As it is Stableford, in lieu of a low gross there will be three ‘Closest to the pin’ on holes 4,12,16…long drive on 14. Finally, as it is more complicated to check in at Split Rock than the Links, show up 45 minutes before your tee time and have exactly $62 . Is that hard to remember? No, and the first comedian who asks me how much it is, is penalized two shots.
