October 3rd at Split Rock and next tournament

From: James Murphy

I want to thank the hardy souls who played yesterday despite a gloomy forecast from the Weather Service. The rain pretty much stopped as we arrived at SR and the forecast gale-force winds were nothing of the sort. The bonus was the course was ours alone as we went out.
To the action, my fourball witnessed a virtuoso display of chipping and putting from the winner, Tom O’Meara. Without further ado, here are the results:

Ist Tom O’Meara 82 off 14 net 68

2nd On a tie with Don Courtman, Jim Gilland 81 ( won tie-breaker with 37 on back nine) off 10 net 71

CTP 12 Pat Costigan CTP 16 Steve McCrimlisk LD 17 Jim Murphy

Sign-up for Saturday Sept 19 (Plus one of those famous Jim Murphy weather guarantees!)

From Jim Murphy:

This coming Saturday at the Links, we will have our last GUARANTEED good weather tournament. That’s right, I have seen the forecasts for the week and I guarantee a beautiful day! While the individual season-long competitions are moving toward a timely conclusion, the Partners is slogging along without resolution. I will ask the Moss-Carey vs. Sherry Byrne match to please make arrangeemts to play before the end of the month of September, so that the Final can be played before mid-October. I am pressuming the Bell-Mulligan vs Brosnan- K O’Sullivan match will be held at this tournament, and I await confirmation from the participants.
At this time, this is who has committed to play Saturday:

Lafferty
Moss
Andrasick
McCrimlisk
Pile
J Murphy
Sweeney

Please text or email me with your intention to play by Thursday evening at 10 PM. As this is also the Woodlawn Memorial, and our well-heeled members are finished with their summer rentals in East Hampton, the coast of Kerry, and La Jolla,Ca., I am hoping for a big turnout Saturday….have a good week…JM

Myrtle Beach Trip

A Note from Gerry Murphy:

We are doing another Myrtle Beach trip this year -the dates are Wednesday, Nov 4th to Sat., Nov 7th. We will fly out Wed evening and play 2 rounds Thursday, 1 round Friday, and play early Sat morning and then catch the afternoon flight home. The cost is approximately $350 per person and that includes the 4 rounds of golf, breakfast and lunch each day and a few drinks after each round and your room of course. You can book your own flight. If you are  interested in going , let me (Gerry) know so we can get a head count. We had a great time last year, looking forward to going back .

Saturday results

From Jim Murphy:

While it was a great day for golf and Split Rock was in decent shape, the pace of play there was again a major impediment to fully enjoying your round. Rest assured, I will be making our views known to Split Rock management on this. They insist on 8 minute tee-time spacing, and have rangers who drive around aimlessly, not moving along the slow groups, which inevitably leads to insufferably long rounds like Saturday ( and our previous outing at Pelham Bay). One tactic is going to be to ask for earlier tee times next year which usually lessens the logjam , at least a little bit.
Here are the results:

1st net Bill Marshall 84 off 14- 70 net ( Tiebreaker 41 net 34 on back)

2nd Net Marty Moss 77 off 7- 70 net (net 35 on back)

3rd net Joe Stapleton 72 net

CTP 12 Jim Gilland
CTP 16 as unlikely as it sounds, 2 guys in the same group measured equally at 8’8″: Don Courtman and Mike Curtin

Long Drive 17 Bubba Solon

Low Gross Marty Moss

Next event is at Links, Saturday Sept 19…..I expect all competitions will have concluded semi-finals by that date. If you are in the partners, please contact your opponents and arrange to play

Saturday Sept 5 , Split Rock 8:32 fourballs

From: Jim Murphy

Here are the pairings, in no particular order, for Saturday morning , first tee time 8:32. As these are not given in order, EVERYONE should be checked in and paid by 8:15. There have been three or four guys at every event that don’t show up until the third group is on the tee. Since, for once, I need to get out of there by 2 PM tomorrow, I will be going out in the first group and can’t sit there waiting for late arrivers.
