From: Jim Murphy

Our first tee time is 11:12. It is both a partner and individual stroke play event.

There 7 groups , plus 2 members playing in Links members slots earlier
The first three groups out are as follows :

11:12 Elias Pile Leavy Carey
11:21 Lange Scales Whalen Lafferty
11:30 K O’ Sullivan Brosnan Gilland Marshall

Everyone be there by no later than 11:15. It is two events: an individual stroke play and the one day Partners Championship. entry $20 per man

We have been cited by the Links Board for slow play. The first group is responsible to set 4:20 pace and don’t hesitate to say something if you think someone in your group is playing too slowly.

We had a beautiful morning yesterday at Pelham Bay. And the earlier tee times are paying off in less congestion on the course and a better pace of play. It’s nice when everyone is off the course before 1 pm and there is time to get some other things done with the day if you choose. Before moving on to next Saturday’s Partner’s event at the Links, here are the results:

1st place Kevin Lynch 84 off 18= 66 net ( 33 net on back nine)

2nd place Jim Murphy 76 off 10= 66 net ( 34 net on back nine)

3rd place Tim Bell 77 off 8= 69 net

CTP 8th hole Bob Andrasick
CTP 12 hole Joe Firth
LD 18th hole Martin Moss

Low Gross 76 Jim Murphy

There were also 6 first round Handicap matches played yesterday, leaving 13 matches unplayed. If you can arrange to play a Handicap match next Saturday, I will attempt to pair teams in the Partner’s so that individual matches can also be played. Please get your
partnerships lined up early and contact me by 10 AM Thursday to sign up. If you don’t have a partner, sign up and I will try to match you up with another single.

The winner next week will also represent Woodlawn at the MGA “Met Net” partners qualifying tournament in early June, details to follow. In order to enter the MGA competition, an additional fee of $20 per TEAM is required. This is in addition to the normal $10 per man entry fee.

So get back to me early and get yourself a dance partner!

Tomorrow morning 7:00 AM Pelham Bay

From: James Murphy

Hello again,
Tomorrow marks the 4th qualifier for the CC and B and thus will be played off stroke play. Also, I have paired 12 competitors in the 1st round of the Handicap tomorrow. First Round Handicap matches should be played by month end and those not contested tomorrow will likely have to be played outside our tournament since next weekend’s Woodlawn event at the Links will be the annual one-day Partner’s championship. It is noted those first round contestants that are showing up and those who aren’t should the committee have to determine who advances. Of course, everyone prefers these things to be decided on the golf course.
Since we have an odd number, their will be one group of five tomorrow. My apologies for that but the management of SR/PB does not want to give an extra tee time that would have allowed 3 threesomes.

I respectfully ask that EVERYONE ( with one exception, a guy who was courteous enough to inform me he would be a little late) have checked in and paid me before 7 AM. Our first group heads to the tee at 6:58 and I expect everyone there by then. It shouldn’t be too much to ask since everyone will be on the course before 8 AM. Remember, if I can be there from Northern NJ , you can make it from the Bronx, Westchester ( especially Pelham Manor NY

Woodlawn Inter-Club Match

From: Marty Moss

All,

We got a bye in the first round of the interclub and we play Spillanes in the next round. They beat The Links in The links yesterday. The score was 10 1/2 to 5 1/2. As you all know we got a good whopping last year against Spillanes. Well, its now time for revenge. We have to play this match by July 10th. This gives us enough notice to put out a strong team. I’m thinking we should play this in June. We’re the home team so we pick the course. I will take a look at the courses, scores etc etc and decide where we play but it will more than likely be Split Rock or The Links.

Please let me know if anyone can’t play so I can narrow the playing squad down.
If anyone has any input or ideas please let me know. I’m open to discussion.

Results from Split Rock – May 1

From: James Murphy

I’ll start by saying that we were fortunate that the weather forecast worked to our advantage yesterday. We had few other golfers holding us up and the first Woodlawn Group set a good pace ( thank you Tom Bennett), allowing us to move along at a nice 3 hour 50 minute pace for the first four groups, the fifth through seventh groups lagged a bit ( 4:05 for 5th 4:10 for 6th, to 4:15 for the 7th and last group). While 4:15 is a good pace normally, that’s not the case when there is nobody in front of you. Lets leave it this way: enjoyment of the day’s pace of play would have been lessened if the groups had been reversed. To those of you who backed out, you missed a great day for golf, at most a light drizzle, good course conditions, and no waiting. I ask that you take a look at the 5 day forecast before you commit to playing. Weather information is out there 5 days in advance.
The results:

1st — Bill Marshall 65 net ( another "career round!!" by Billy)
2nd—- Kevin Lynch 69 net
3rd —-Dom Mulligan 71 net

CTP — 4th Sean O’Sulivan 16th Bill Marshall LD Dean Marraccini — low gross 4 tied at 81

Tomorrow, Sunday, at Links

From: James Murphy

Woodlawn members,
There is a lot to go over before we commence play tomorrow at 11:03. First, it was decided at end of last season that we would adopt the same tee options as the Links uses in it’s tournaments, when we play our monthly event up there. The Links follows USGA Rule 3.5 which adjusts the course handicap. That means you can play the White (#3) or Blue (#4) tees. This year, the Links is sensibly using the #4 tees as the Point of reference. That means if you play the blues, you play off your normal course handicap for that tee. If you choose to play the White tees, you play off your White tee Course handicap minus 2 strokes. There is a chart on the wall next to the computer at the Links, showing your adjustment. I also have the chart here and I would appreciate if those few who choose to play the White tees would respond to me today. There is another layer of work involved in this. I have tried to put groups together based on my educated guess as to what tees you will choose to play.

Things to think about: If you want to qualify for the Club
Championship, you must play the Blue tees. Everyone, no matter the tee chosen, will be eligible for the two Closest to Pins. The Long Drive is for those playing the Blues only.

We will be playing SUMMER RULES tomorrow, no moving the ball when it is in play. Stroke play, 1st ,2nd 3rd Low Net, Low Gross

I will be closing shop at 11:30 tomorrow. If you are not there by then, FIND ME. If I don’t have your entry fee by the time I tee off, you can have a fun day out there, but you won’t be in the tournament or eligible for prizes.

I am not going to put handicaps in these pairings, they will be on the scorecards, which I will prepare tonight. If you are playing the Blues, no need to respond.. Please respond if you are opting to play the white tees so I can have the adjustment made on your card.
