Woodlawn Memorial @ the Links – Sat Oct 15 – 10am shotgun

From: James Murphy

Sign-up has begun for the next tournament on Saturday Oct 15. Joe Stapleton has designated the day to be the annual “Memorial” tournament. Please sign up by Wednesday night Oct 12th with me. After that date, you can sign up directly with Joe Stapleton. The Links Cup match with the Links will be held this Sunday Oct 9 at 11:03 AM. Further details should be forthcoming to those who are playing from the Captain of the team.
Speaking of teams, the American side in the Woodlawn version of the Ryder Cup decisively defeated the Irish side by a count of 9 1/2 to 2 1/2. Damien Sweeney was relieved of his Captaincy moments after the matches concluded. A task force has been formed by the Irish to see if they can rebound with a competitive team next year.
Congrats to Dan Curtin on his 3rd win of the season as he won a 4-way tie with net 68 by virtue of a blistering final 6 holes. The Player of the Year race has come down to DC and Kevin Lynch, who can clinch with a victory in the B finals. Lynch has been holed up at his North Carolina training camp preparing for the Final….have a good week everyone!

Woodlawn tournament tomorrow and ‘Ryder Cup’ format

From: James Murphy
Tomorrow at 7:42 at Pelham Bay, we will have a Stroke-play tournament with a Ryder Cup match-play kicker.
There are 30 participants, and with a little juggling we have 15 ‘Americans’ playing 15 ‘Europeans’.
EVERYONE please be at the course and checked in with me by 7:20, it would be nice to have a bit of atmosphere around the first tee. Some effort was expended to get guys out for this, so don’t be a selfish tool and come waltzing in at 7:40. There should not be a lot of traffic on the course tomorrow, so I expect we will get out right on time and that our round should not take longer than 4:20. At the conclusion, the management of PB/SR has included lunch and a beverage in appreciation of our patronage…… like the Ryder Cup each match is worth one point, by my count there are 24 points up for grabs. Hopefully, a Ryder Cup of sorts will be presented to the winning team.

For the stroke play club tournament aspect, I ask that everyone finishes out ( ie. holes the ball) even if a putt has been given in your match. The tournaments are normally won or lost by the 2-3 footers, and it is unfair to the field to pick the ball up.

We will have CTP on 8 and 12, LD on 18. I ask that the first group please take out three markers with them from the Pro Shop…… Having been there this week, I can attest that the course is only in middling shape, Winter Rules in effect on your own fairway.

The Honorary Captains for the Ryder Cup are Damien Sweeney and Bob Wallace, Bob is enforcing a 10 PM curfew for his team tonight.

The teams:

USA Europe

Dean M. Solon
J Murphy Lafferty
J Gilland K O’Sullivan
D Courtman Stapleton
McCrimlisk Pile
Carey Finnegan
Marshall Whelan
M Curtin T O’Meara
S. Firth Mulligan

J Firth Sweeney ( Capt.)
G Courtman Maher
Wallace ( Capt.) Flynn

Lange Colgan

The Matches in order:

Marraccini & Leavy vs Solon & Flynn ( fourball)

Murphy vs Lafferty Gilland vs K O’Sullivan (singles)

McCrimlisk vs Pile Stapleton vs D Courtman (singles)

Carey & Marshall vs. Finnegan & Whelan ( fourball)

M Curtin vs T O’Meara S Firth vs Mulligan ( singles)

Elias vs Breen Wallace vs Maher ( singles)

Sweeney & D Curtin vs J Firth & G Courtman ( fourball)

Lange vs. Colgan ( Singles) – Carl Thompson -Mick Reidy ( guests)

Sunday, 7:42 Pelham Bay

From: James Murphy

As many of you know, Stephen Carey and Gerry Murphy have been advocating a Ryder Cup between American-born and Euro-born members ( more accurately Irish–born and one Continental). So with this being Ryder Cup week, with some recruiting efforts I have a field of 28, with 14 from each side. The four balls will be two and two, trying to minimize handicap differentials. I’ll designate some as two-man better ball and some as singles matches.Any suggestions in the next 24 hours will be welcome. Let’s see how it goes. The format will not affect the Woodlawn tournament, which will still be a stroke play event….Jim

Last Bronx tournament of 2016 (10/2) and other news

From: James Murphy

All,The next Club event will be held next Sunday October 2 at Pelham Bay with first tee time at 7:42. If you are going to play, please sign up early as the management there is strict about deadlines and no-shows.

After much back and forth, a firm date has been set to play the match against the Links Golf Club on Sunday October 9th at the Links, the time TBD. Captain Marty Moss will be in touch as he puts together the team.

Congrats to the winner of last Saturday’s tournament Gerry Sherry, who posted a score that I can’t mention because it was obscene. Suffice it to say he could have played another 3 holes and likely still won the event. Second and third place went to Damien Sweeney and Tony Dunleavy, respectively.

Again, please email or text me your intent to play by next Wednesday night….have a healthy weekend, Jim

Ryder Cup

From: Martin Moss

All,

We would like some feedback about the Woodlawn club having its own Ryder cup competition. Now that summer is gone and fall is just around the corner we can get a day to have the Woodlawn Ryder Cup. This is just an email to get some ideas from everyone. You can respond to
mossmartin931189
don’t be afraid.
The general consensus is that we could have it some afternoon during the week at Pelham or Split rock. At least of the guys want to have a drink they don’t have to worry as much about getting pulled over. It’s a short distance and you can even get a cab home for most of us.

Please give us some feedback.

On another note. A few of the guys are going to Ocean city from October 18th to the 21st. 4 rounds of golf on great courses. Hotel with Breakfast each morning. Gerry Murphy and Andy Pile will provide the entertainment. All that for $380. The guys are going to drive down. They need to know by October 2nd.

Founders/Links Cup

From: martin moss
All,

Once again another update.

I have reached out to The Links and I can’t seem to get anyone that’s running their team!! So I have spoken to Pat Sullivan at The links to see what dates The Links had free. the only dates free are the 8th or 9th of October. I have sent them dates to The Links President and hopefully we can get this played.

If I hear anything more I will let you know straight away.

If anyone cant make it please text me at mmoss (I’m having problems with my AOL email) otherwise I will take it that you can play next Sunday.

Sorry about the short notice and the limited information.
