From Jim Murphy:

I received a late attempt to enter from Mick McCourt, so if anyone has to cancel ( or, conversely, if anyone else wants to play to get us to 42, please let me know ASAP)….. The first group goes out at 11:00 and consists of those not playing in the Partners. To those in that group with no official handicap., I have included a suggested handicap based on observed results ( in case a Nassau is played) Here is the line-up:

Group 3 Andrasick 3 Gallen 17 — Solon 10 Finnegan 15

Group 5 Maher 20 Browne 9

Sunday 11 AM at Links

From Jim Murphy:

Gents,At this time we have reached 40 players Sunday morning. I will send out pairings later today. A few reminders:

If you haven’t payed your $200 annual dues, please bring a check and give to Pat Lafferty. If not paid up by this tournament, you will be ineligible for prizes until you are paid in.

We have used this partners event as not only a qualifier for the Woodlawn Partners best ball ( low 8 teams will qualify), but as a qualifier for the MGA best ball tournament. Last year, Donal Maher and Joe Browne represented the Club. In order to participate, we must pay an entrance fee to the MGA. So in order to participate, each team must submit $20 (for those struggling with math, that is $10 per man). So this week, I will be collecting $ 20 per man at my post. The MGA event is a well-run day, played at a fine course. Anyone who has been lucky enough to qualify for it has enjoyed the experience.

There will be prizes awarded to the winning partners team, and to the individual winners, as this is also an individual stroke play event.

Finally, Damien has requested a meeting for 9:45 to discuss the tournament tees that Woodlawn will play. No matter what other clubs decide, we will be playing the blue tees at the Links. Each player will play off his handicap, which is enhanced by two shots as per USGA rule 3.5…..see you all Sunday, Jimmy

Minutes Page and Changes for 2015

At our last meeting Thierry Elias recommended that we post minutes of meetings so that people who could not attend the meeting would be aware of any matters decided at the meeting. With this in mind, there is a page added to the site under the name Minutes, where copies will be posted. I have put the minutes for the December meeting there. I will try to add some other previous minutes but many are not in digital form so that will be a little work. Decisions of note at the December meeting regarded the deadlines for the Club, ‘B’, Handicap, and Partners Championship. Those deadlines are as follows:

  • End of June: 1st Round of Handicap
  • End of July: 1st Round of Club and ‘B’, 2nd Round of Handicap, 1st Round of Partners
  • End of August: Quarter-Finals of Club,’B’, and Handicap
  • End of September: Semi-Finals of Club,’B’, Handicap, and Partners
  • End of October: Final for Club, ‘B’, Handicap, and Partners

A couple of smaller changes were to not apply the penalty for winning a tournament to the President’s Prize but at the subsequent tournament played and for purposes of Player of the year points, only 1st place will be decided by tiebreaker. If players are tied for other positions they will divide up the point applicable to those position equally, rounding up to the nearest whole number. So if two players are tied for 2nd and 3rd at a tournament – worth 12 and 8 points for Player of the Year- they will each get 10 points.

Special Woodlawn GC Meeting, Sunday May 17th 9:45 AM at The Links

There will be a special meeting at The Links before next weeks tournament. The meeting will be for the sole purpose of reviewing which tees will be used by the club at tournaments – especially in view of changes to the tees at The Links. The meeting will start at 9:45 AM. Regardless of any decision at that meeting, the tournament on May 17th will be played off the blue tees as it is the last qualifying tournament for the Championships and the previous qualifying tournament played at The Links was played off the blue tees.

Sign up for Sunday May 17—Links 11:00 am

From Jim Murphy:
